Wooden Decks

Traditional wooden decks. Many homeowners still choose pressure-treated wood decking because it is familiar, has wide availability, and is affordable. The wood provides a classic look, and it’s hard to argue against the natural appearance it gives. Most deck contractors will estimate the lifespan of pressure-treated wood decking at 15-25 years, depending on location, how well it has been maintained and what weather conditions it has been exposed to. Regular maintenance is necessary to maximize a wooden deck's longevity, which incurs additional costs. Neglecting maintenance will significantly reduce your wooden deck life.

If your primary concern is saving money, then pressure-treated wood decking is the way to go, but before that, think how much effort you are willing to put into your new deck. You have to be aware that pressure-treated wood decking has high maintenance requirements. You must clean it regularly throughout the year and do deeper cleans via pressure washing or scrubbing annually. This type of decking also requires restaining or repainting every 3-4 years. So, in about 10-12 years of wood decking maintenance, costs will add up and reach the level of the low-maintenance composite deck.
